"Archives of Trauma" is a visual exploration of the fractured self and the lingering
echoes of psychological distress. The project seeks to materialize the invisible weight
of past experiences, documenting how trauma resides within the body and the
domestic sphere. By utilizing motifs of fragmentation and shadow, I aim to create a
space where the complexity of internal healing can be observed and acknowledged.
The project treats the photograph as a container for memory, where the subject is
often caught between the desire to be seen and the instinct to remain hidden.
Visual Themes:
Fragmentation of Identity: Through the use of mirrors and sharp-edged reflections,
the work illustrates the "shattered" perspective often experienced in the wake of
trauma.
The Silhouette of the Past: I use high-contrast lighting and deep shadows to
represent the parts of the self that feel obscured or unreachable.
Domestic Liminality: By framing subjects within the home, specifically near windows
and heavy drapery, I explore the tension between the safety of the interior and the
vulnerability of the outside world.
The Confrontational Gaze: The central figure’s direct eye contact through a broken
medium serves as a testament to the courage required to look at one’s own reflection
during the process of recovery.
Through these archives, I hope to offer a quiet, empathetic lens on the persistence of
the human spirit amidst the fragments of its own history.
